Orochimaru is one of Konohagakure's most celebrated and powerful ninja, one of the legendary Sannin, but defected from the village to search out his own self-seeking desires, such as learning every technique and gaining immortality. He was a member of the Anbu faction Root prior to his defection. He was the main antagonist throughout most of Part 1 and, though started of as one in part 2, he later became an ally of the Five Kage during the Fourth Shinobi World War.
As a child, Orochimaru was originally a student under the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, alongside his teammates, Tsunade and Jiraiya, after becoming a Gennin. Even as a child, Orochimaru stood out as a prodigy that his sensei claimed to appear once in a generation for his exceptional talents, skill, and determination.
During the Second Shinobi World War, Orochimaru and his childhood teammates, Jiraiya and Tsunade, fought together against Hanzo of the Salamander, the leader of Amegakure, the village that Konoha was fighting against in the war. Out of all their platoon, only Orochimaru and his teammates survived. For this, Hanzo allowed them to live and get stronger so they could fight him again in the future and gave them the name of Sannin of Konoha in return for their names. On their way home, the Sannin encountered three orphans from Amegakure whom Orochimaru questioned if he should kill or not to keep them from suffering. He was stopped by Jiraiya, who told him and Tsunade to return to the village while he cared for them. Some time afterwards, Orochimaru declared he would learn every technique and began discreet activities to gain immortality.
After the disbanding of Team Hiruzen, Orochimaru joined an Anbu faction named Root, led by Danzo Shimura, one of the elders of Konohagakure. On one occasion, he encountered a young orphan boy named Kabuto Yakushi, who would become his right-hand man. As the boy healed him while helping his caretaker, Orochimaru asked him if he had ever thought of being a shinobi and lamented that the boy's talents with medical ninjutsu were being wasted when he declined. Orochimaru paid his caretaker a visit along with Danzo and another ninja with whom he made threats against the orphanage she ran if she didn't accept a mission they wanted her for. Five years after Kabuto leaves with them to take the place of a casualty, Orochimaru approaches the boy after he has seemingly killed his caretaker in a fight where Orochimaru was to kill the winner and tells him how Danzo had manipulated the two and tried to trick them into killing each other to destroy the threat they posed to Root due to their skill. Instead of killing him, however, Orochimaru gave him a new identity and teamed up with him, promising to protect him from Danzo in return for him being his spy to help with the research he was conducting.
While becoming the Fourth Hokage did originally set in his goals, Hiruzen, who had always wanted Orochimaru to succeed him, saw that Orochimaru didn't have the right views of the title in mind and when he put in his name for consideration, he was rejected the position, prompting Orochimaru to become less discreet with his illegal actions. Over the years, he had been steadily kidnapping shinobi from Konoha to use as test subjects for his immortality research. When the kidnappings were eventually traced to him, Orochimaru killed the Anbu with Hiruzen, who had tracked him down, and escaped when his teacher couldn't kill him. He had also been experimenting with the DNA of Hashirama Senju, the First Hokage, and attempted to re-create the First's Wood Release by implanting his genetics into sixty children, but was forced to leave before finding out if it had been successful.
Orochimaru later became a member of a criminal organization called Akatsuki and was paired up with Sasori of the Red Sand, a missing-nin from Sunagakure, whom Orochimaru worked well with and had a mutual respect for. While in the organization, he attempted to steal the body of Itachi Uchiha when he joined but was left cripled for doing so and forced to leave to find a new body. He went on to found the village of Otogakure to help with his goals and later witnessed the demise of the Kaguya clan in their effort to destroy Kirigakure, later saving Kimimaro, the only survivor and a holder of his clan's kekkei genkai, Shikotsumyaku, and recruited him as one of his most loyal followers. He sent Kimimaro to bring him Jugo, a boy with incredible transformation powers and used the boy's powers and his sage chakra to create his Cursed Seals, which he branded all of his strongest followers with. He also, at one point, became a teacher to Anko Mitarashi, a kunoichi of Konoha, who he also branded with a Cursed Seal.
In Part 1, Orochimaru appeared in Konohagakure again during the Chunnin Exams and began to quitely and carefully plan to destroy the village. He participated in the Chunnin Exams in disguise and branded Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha with seals, a chakra-unstabling seal for the former and the Cursed Seal of Heaven for the latter, after a fight. He later easily outmatched his former student, Anko Mitarashi, and had her deliver a message to the Third Hokage, Hiruzen, not to cancel the exams, or face his retaliation. He went on to confront Kakashi Hatake after the latter sealed the Cursed Seal of Heaven on Sasuke Uchiha and declared that Sasuke would eventually come to him for power, terrifying Kakashi as he left. Orochimaru enlisted the help of Sunagakure after they had grown bitter of their alliance with Konoha by killing the Fourth Kazekage and impersonating him. At the Chunnin Exams finals, Orochimaru arrived in disguise as the Kazekage and joined Hiruzen in the battle arena.
After he decided the time was right, Orochimaru initiated the destruction of Konoha and forced Hiruzen into a barrier created by Orochimaru's bodyguards. He then began battling Hiruzen and revived the First and Second Hokage to give Hiruzen the feeling of what it was like to fight one's former master, but the latter summoned Enma, his battle partner and managed to hold his own at first. When Orochimaru and the revived Hokage proved too much for Hiruzen, he used the Dead Demon Consuming Seal to summon the death god and used it to seal the souls of the revived Hokage before trying to do the same to Orochimaru. However, Orochimaru managed to fight back and stabbed Hiruzen through the chest from behind with his Sword of Kusanagi. Unable to finish Orochimaru, Hiruzen sealed his arms to disable his techniques and save the village before dying.
Orochimaru tracked down Tsunade, his old teammate and fellow Sannin, through Kabuto and attempted to convince her to heal his arms in return for reviving her loved ones, Dan, her lover, and Nawaki, her brother. While he was sure she would accept, after the week he gave her to consider his offer was up, she betrayed him and tried to kill him after saying yes. Orochimaru and Kabuto then began to battle her, but were soon joined by Jiraiya, the final Sannin, and he and Tsunade's pupils, Shizune and Naruto Uzumaki. Orochimaru took on Jiraiya after Kabuto defeated Tsunade and allowed Kabuto to handle the rest. When Naruto defeated Kabuto, Orochimaru attempted to kill the boy, but was stopped by Tsunade, who overcame her fear of blood and forced Orochmaru to summon his strongest summon, Manda, as she and Jiraiya summoned their strongest summons, Gamabunta and Katsuyu. In a deadlock fight, Orochimaru managed to hold his own, but was gradually overpowered and beaten when Manda was disable. He then left with Kabuto to find a new host body.
Orochimaru sent his bodyguards, the Sound Four, to bring him Sasuke Uchiha, who was hungry for power, with intentions to transfer into his body, but ran out of time to wait and was forced to transfer early. When Sasuke eventually arrived, Orochimaru began training him to become his ideal vessel.
In Part 2, Orochimaru first appeared at what was to be a set-up meeting between Kabuto and Orochimaru's former partner in Akatsuki, a criminal organization, Sasori but was surprised to find that it was a former test subject of his in disguise as Sasori named Yamato, who had the Wood Release. When Yamato called forth his team, Orochimaru took interest in Naruto Uzumaki, who was with them, 's growth and began goading him about "his" Sasuke, causing the start of a violent battle with Naruto. Though weakened due to needing to transfer to a new host body, Orochimaru managed to hold his own against Naruto and found the battle very enjoyable, even when the latter lost control and released a four-tailed form of the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox, Kurama. When Naruto used the Tailed Beast Ball, Orochimaru got serious, blocked the attack with his Tripple Rashomon summoning defence, and drove him away with his Sword of Kusanagi before collapsing.
As he recuperated, he was approached by Sai, an agent of Danzo, of the Anbu faction Root in Konoha, who relayed him a message from the elder. After seeing proof of the message's truth, Orochimaru and Kabuto took him back to their hide-out, where Orochimaru was later surprised to see Sai betray him and team back up with Yamato and his team. Orochimaru fled before he could be drawn into another fight and stopped Sasuke from killing the team by saying they could help in his revenge against his brother, Itachi, by killing more Akatsuki members.
Later, Orochimaru wass serverely weakened at the time for him to switch into Sasuke's body, but before he could attempt to do so, the latter betrayed and attacked him by surprise, looking to kill Orochimaru now that he couldn't learn anything else from him. Orochimaru released his true form, The Great White Serpent and began the body-stealing process regardless. However, Sasuke managed to rest control of it from Orochimaru and turned it against him to some degree, absorbing Orochimaru's soul and chakra into himself while the latter could only watch in shock and disbelief. During Sasuke's battle against Itachi, he used up all his chakra and Orochimaru violently emerged through his Eight Branches Technique and thanked Itachi for allowing him the chance to finally take over Sasuke's body. Before he could, however, Itachi impaled him with the Sword of Totsuka, which Orochimaru had been searching for but didn't recognize at first and boasted that it would take more than that to kill him. Orochimaru then realized something was wrong and recognized the sword as Itachi drew him into the blade's gourd hilt and sealed him away.
During the Fourth Shinobi World War, after Sasuke had teamed up with the revived Itachi, defeated Kabuto with Izanami, and reunited with Suigetsu and Jugo, his former teammates, the former hands him a scroll that Sasuke realizes only Orochimaru can use, and so he uses the Evil Releasing Method to merge Orochimaru's consciousness and soul portion inside his Curse Mark on Anko Mitarashi with a sample of Kabuto's flesh, which had been infused with Orochimaru's cells, to revive Orochimaru by extracting a snake from Anko that regurgitates Orochimaru in his original body. While surprised that Sasuke had revived him, Orochimaru states he knows Sasuke needs him and tells Suigetsu that he wants no part in the war happening as he didn't start it. When Sasuke shows him the scroll Suigetsu had given him, Orochimaru questions Sasuke as to why he wants to meet the ones the scroll refers to. After hearing Sasuke's answer, Orochimaru absorbs all his chakra out of Kabuto and agrees to take him to a place Sasuke knows well to find the ones the scroll mentions. As they travel to and through Konohagakure, Orochimaru, along with Sasuke and his teammates, sense the incredible chakra of Naruto's Nine-Tails Chakra Mode and, as Sasuke tells him to lead the way, Orochimaru laments that knowing it was from Naruto seemed to be annoying Sasuke more than anything else. Orochimaru later finishes leading Sasuke to their destination.
Going inside the collapsing Uzumaki clan's mask temple, Orochimaru retrieves the mask of the death god and departs back into the village with Sasuke and the others where, when Sasuke leaps onto a pole to look at the village, Orochimaru points out to Suigetsu that Sasuke is doing as he once did before he wanted to destroy Konohagakure; looking at his birthplace and reaffirming his resolve. Traveling on to the Uchiha clan's then destroyed Nakano Shrine, Sasuke opens a sealed door and inside, Orochimaru puts on the death god's mask and begins his ritual by summoning the death god and cutting open its and, by connection, his own, belly, releasing the souls of the previous four Hokage and ordering Jugo to flow his curse mark sage energy into to Sasuke, which forces out six White Zetsu clones within him that Obito Uchiha had used to watch over Sasuke. Telling Suigetsu and Jugo to restrain two, Orochimaru uses four of the clones as sacrifices for his Impure World Reincarnation technique and, as he emerges his true form and takes a Zetsu clone's body for a replacement, revives the four previous Hokage; Hashirama Senju, Tobirama Senju, Hiruzen Sarutobi, and Minato Namikaze, saying they are the ones who knew everything. As Minato asked him how he managed to remove the seal of the death god, Orochimaru told him he was underestimating him and that he had been studying the ruins and documents of the now lost Uzumaki clan after the loss of his arms. When Hashirama asked who was the Fifth Hokage after Minato indentified himself as the Fourth, Orochimaru told him that his granddaughter, Tsunade, was Fifth Hokage.
As Tobirama laments that he was using his technique again so easily, Orochimaru states it was not all that complicated to do so and that Impure World Reincarnation should not have been created, saying his political measures and techniques created a lot of trouble before and after. After Tobirama asked him if he mean't to attack Konohagakure again and Hiruzen questioned how he could have caused this to happen, Orochimaru corrected them saying he only revived them this time so that Sasuke could ask them some questions. As Sasuke strikes up a conversation with the Hokage and Tobirama makes an imput about the Uchiha, Orochimaru replies that he was the one who cornered the Uchiha by starting the Konoha Military Police Force, as the ones who control crime tend to be disliked and conceited do to their authority and the position they hold. After Hashirama says it would take some time to answer Sasuke's questions, Orochimaru says that if he could as quickly as possible that would be great, announcing that they had little time. As Hiruzen asks him what he means, Orochimaru announces to the Hokage that Madara Uchiha had been revived and was now trying to erase all shinobi in existence. Refusing to allow Hiruzen or the other Hokage to leave, Orochimaru paralyzes them after Tobirama tries to anyway, using Hashirama's cells to strengthen his hold on them. Though Hashirama breaks free easily, he tells Orochimaru that he will stay and answer Sasuke's question before he leaves. After Hashirama had finished answering Sasuke's questions with his story, Orochimaru follows up a statement by Minato Namikaze to Hiruzen, stating his being overlooked in the former's favor was regarded as a big mistake by many in Konohagakure, responding to Suigetsu's question about if hes sulking by saying that he would never get a chance to rub it in Hiruzen's face again.
Orochimaru then asks Sasuke is he has reached a decision about whether or not to crush the village, to which the latter answers that he will try and save the village by entering the battlefield. As he still had then bound, Hiruzen addresses Orochimaru, reminding him that he had said he would back up Sasuke's play, an end to which Orochimaru announces he'll be joining them. Heading outside, Orochimaru is surprised to see Karin, the last of Sasuke's team and one of his former servants, who was shocked to see him. Telling her Sasuke had stabbed him in the back too, Orochimaru states that he is now on Sasuke's side and advises Karin do the same. After Hiruzen asks him why he is assisting Sasuke, Orochimaru states that he wants to see where this path will lead Sasuke as, unlike Kabuto, Sasuke didn't try to copy him. While everyone else proceeds to the battlefield, Orochimaru, Karin, and Suigetsu instead go to the place where the five Kage had recently been defeated by Madara Uchiha, and addresses his old temmate, Tsunade as he arrives, saying that she didn't seem to be holding up so well. Telling Karin and Suigetsu of Katsuyu, Tsunade slug.'s origins, Orochimaru asks Karin if she is still upset that he about him taking Sasuke from she asks him about the five Kage. Afterwards, Orochimaru jumps down, saying they had to first take care of Tsunade. When Tsunade recognizes him, Orochiumaru states that she had overexerted herself, and tells Katsuyu that he is there to help and is not her enemy when she prepares to attack him. As she states that they can't trust him and asks if he is supposed to be dead, Orochimaru states that she can feel free to attack him if she feels anything he does to be suspicious, to which she agrees to cooperate.
Telling the slug that she had always been much more reasonable than his own personal summon, Manda, Orochimaru asks where the other Kage are and learns that Tsunade was too weak to use her healing technique, prompting Orochimaru to comment that he had never seen Tsunade in such a dire state. Orochimaru asks Suigetsu to connect Tsunade's two body halves and Karin to allow her to bit her and heal Tsunade. When the two start to fight, Orochimaru orders them to act, threatening to use his snakes to bind and control them if they don't, telling them also that they were two equally abnormal people. The two both obey without hesitation and Tsunade is healed. Telling his former teammate to try and be a little grateful to him for this treatment, Orochimaru is asked why he did this since he had already betrayed the village once, to which he answers that he now has many interests and that in the past he was like wind that moved windmills and now wanted to see the joy brought by unknown winds and enjoy it, thinking of Sasuke and his new choice. As Tsunade replies, saying he had changed, even if a little, Orochimaru replies that people change and that its only a question of whether die first. Noting that his old friend Jiraiya died as he was, Orochimaru hears Tsunade reply that if he had changed sooner, their dead teammate might still be alive. Saying that Jiraiya might have changed as well in that case, Orochimaru states that the Sannin were never on the same page and that they were bound to find something that would "twist" them, contemplating to himself that that was the reason he wanted to see what lay ahead for Sasuke and savor it. Tsunade thanks Orochimaru for his help and asks him if he knows about the war, to which he anawers yes, saying thats why he had helped her.
Stating that they should leave now, Orochimaru tells Tsunade that she should stay and take care of the other Kage as he leaves with his Karin and Suigetsu. As they arrive on the battlefield, Orochimaru, hearing Hiruzen's statement about Obito and the Shinju, tells his former teacher he was being very pessimistic, which wasn't like him. Questioned by Hiruzen as to where the Kage were, Orochimaru tells him that they were healed, and should be on their way if they hadn't lost the will to fight. Looking over at Sasuke, Orochimaru asserts that he doesn't seem happy. Later, Hiruzen asks him if he is just going to sit idly by, to which Orochimaru answers that he has norhing ro gain from the war, but adds that Obito accomplishing his goal would be the equal of all his experimentation coming to an end. Hiruzen then tells him to lend them a hand, which Orochimaru does, using his snakes to restrain a branch from the Shinju, allowing Hiruzen to cutit in half while telling him to reminisce for a moment about the time when they were master ans student. Later. after Madara's allies start to make progress against the alliance, Orochimaru, observing their enemy, states it would probably be in their best interests to get this over with as quickly as possible. After seeing Karin attack the enemy while activating Kushina Uzumaki's power, Orochimaru and Suigetsu, after their unknown opponent stabs her, come to her, him biting his neck and placing a Cursed Seal on him to immobilize him, before they all move on towards Sasuke. When Karin lets them know she senses someone with Sasuke, Orochimaru asks if she recognizes the chakra and, answered with no, states they had best hurry ownward, wondering if this was as far as Sasuke wind was mean't to blow. When they arrive on Sasuke's location, Orochimaru laments that the person with him was none other than Kabuto, who had escaped from itachi Uchiha's Izanami.
Explaining to Karin why Kabuto seemed like a different person, he wonders if the latter still had any of his chakra. Conversing with Kabuto about their respective reasons for being there, Orochimaru makes a passing comment to Tobirama Senju, who laid defeated and disabled by Madara nearby, before talking over Kabuto's escape from Izanami with him. They are all later caught in Madara's Infinite Tsukuyomi and tethered to the Shinju to let it reclaim its chakra from them.
Orochimaru is, or at least was, a very selfish man for most of the series, leaving Konohagakure to seek out his own self-serving desires for eternal youth and immortality to be able to learn all techniques, and using his own men, who believed in him, as pawns to do his bidding and help him learn what he wanted. His obsession with learning every technique and trying to unlock the mysteries of nature led him to toy with people's lives and sacrifice them on a regular basis. As a child, Orochimaru seemed softer, though, because of what happened to his parents, was left with a desire for revenge. Even at this point, his teacher, Hiruzen Sarutobi, the Third Hokage, could the deadly mixture of ambition and malice in Orochimaru's eyes, but tried to lead him from these elements out of love for his student. Orochimaru was also quite arrogant, believing himself to be an invincible immortal, which has caused him to be reckless when confronting immensely powerful opponents, like his former teacher and Itachi Uchiha. On both occasions Orochimaru was left crippled in some way because he was either trying to make his opponent suffer, like against Hiruzen, or because he lacked the proper knowledge ahead of time to face his opponent, like against Itachi. Itachi cut off his left hand, though was easily reverseable, but Hiruzen crippled Orochimaru arms by sealing them away, which took most of Orochimaru's power from him. These occasions appear to have wisened Orochimaru up.
The only person Orochimaru trusted and cared about besides Sasuke(to some degree) was his right-hand man, Kabuto Yakushi. Kabuto was entirely loyal to Orochimaru before he was sealed away by Itachi, and looked up to him considerably. Orochimaru always had the upmost faith and trust in Kabuto's loyalty to him, and seemed to humor himself at the notion that Kabuto would ever betray him. He did, however, seem to have trouble determining his thoughts at times, and even pointed out to him his nast, hateful personality. However, after he was sealed, Kabuto strived to be just like him, which caused Orochimaru to desire to see the way Sasuke would go after the latter revived him, though Orochimaru still did Kabuto no harm, despite the latter false statements about being stronger than him, and simply took back his own power from the latter, leaving him otherwise untouched and alive. Though Orochimaru cared for Sasuke somewhat, he still only intended to take his body for himself. Nevertheless, Orochimaru has always been an honest man, despite his evil, and trained Sasuke, giving him the power he rpomised if he joined his side, which allowed Sasuke to nearly defeat his brother. He never ignored Sasuke disrespectfulness towards him either, as Orochimaru anticipated Sasuke would betray him, and showed no surprise when it happened, saying he knew and expected Sasuke would come to kill him in his weakened state.
Orochimaru is an extraordinarily powerful shinobi, being Kage-level in his own right and has been praised as a genius that appears once in a generation. He is very skilled at a large array of areas, particularly as a manipulator, teacher, and swordsman. Orochimaru is extremely intelligent, able to make others due his bidding willingly and easily. As a teacher, he can bring out one's true potential in short period of time, shown when he was able to train Sasuke Uchiha during the time skip and improve his skills to the point where he could fight on par with top-level shinobi, including Kage. Orochimaru is a master swordman and can wield his Sword of Kusanagi with great skill. He is also a capable kenjutsu teacher and was able train Sasuke into an expert swordman. His trademark ability is his affinity with snakes and many of his techniques involve dealings with them. He is also very knowledgeable. A prime example of his intelligence was shown when he managed to complete the Summoning: Impure World Reincarnation technique and perfect it, despite it having been abandoned for study many years before he was even born. During the time that he attempted to destroy Konohagakure, the Third Hokage, called the strongest Hokage, expressed belief that no one would be able to fight on equal footing with or defeat Orochimaru, even the Third himself. Kakashi Hatake, one of Konoha's strongest and finest shinobi, was filled with tremedous fear of him when they met during during the Chunnin Exams and admitted himself that he wouldn't even stand a chance against Orochimaru's power. During his battle with the other Sannin in part 1, despite already having his arms taken away, Orochimaru was able to easily equal both Jiraiya and Tsunade individually and, after summoning Manda, was able to fight them both at once on even terms, despite overall being defeated in the battle, easily catching Jiraiya off-guard and critically injuring Tsunade more than once, even managing to take her pounding and monster strength punch without harm.
In part 2, despite already being in a very weakened state and having had most of his power taken away by the Third Hokage, Orochimaru was able to fight evenly against Naruto Uzumaki's Kurama-controlled four-tailed jinchuriki tranformation, in a fight that ended unfinished as his body eventually gave in on him, and he was forced to fall back. Sasuke Uchiha, along with his teammate, Suigetsu Hozuki, also stated that his victory over Orochimaru was only because the latter was already massively weakened prior to their confrontation. Though Itachi Uchiha was able to catch Orochimaru off-guard on both of their encounters, he was only able to do so because Orochimaru lacked awareness of certain details each time; the full capability of Itachi's genjutsu skills the first time, and of the Sword of Totsuka the second. Had Orochimaru known these things, its very unlikely that he would have been caught off-guard at either of these points. Of all of the Sannin, Orochimaru is the most powerful and stood out the most for individual talent. Orochimaru's intellect and anomaly capability is so much that Sasuke willingly revived him during the Fourth Shinobi World War, acknowledging that he needed Orochimaru to perform a certain task that only he was capable of, denying that he himself was capable of the feat. This feat was to use the death god's mask to invoke him and perform a ritual that would free the souls it had consumed from its belly, a normally suicidal ritual due to the act of seppuku commited because of the user being connected to the death god that Orochimaru not only managed to survive, but also performed perfectly, and effortlessly negated the damage done to himself with his immortality technique, regaining his arms and with them his former strength at the same time. This strength was enhanced when he took a White Zetsu clone, composed of the cells of Hashirama Senju, for a new body, which immensely enhanced his full power to the point that he was able to completely bind three out of the four previous Hokage with ease, catching Tobirama Senju by surprise, a feat which earned him praise from Hashirama himself.
Orochimaru's fighting style is very fluid and he is nearly invunerable to most physical attacks. Even being bisected by Naruto's out-of-control four-tailed form couldn't even slow him down as the snakes he carries within him pulled him back together immediately and he instantly healed any damage. If his body is damaged beyond healing, he can, befitting his snake theme, shed his body like a snake sheds its skin and instantly repair the unhealable damage delt to him. In terms of defensive abilities, he can perform the Summoning: Rashomon and Summoning: Tripple Rashomon to defend himself from powerful attacks, the latter of which protected him from even Naruto's Tailed Beast Ball. In keeping with his snake theme, Orochimaru can work his body like a constricting snake, as well as extend parts of his body and work them like a constricting snake, and summon giant snakes as allies in battle, the strongest being Manda. Orochimaru's strongest technique, the Eight Branches Technique, allows him to transform into a giant, eight-headed, eight-tailed snake bigger and stronger than even Manda.
In result of his quest to gain immortality, Orochimaru mastered a technique called Living Corpse Reincarnation, which allows him to transfer his soul into a body of his choice and imprison the body's owner's soul in his mind. In order to use this technique continuously, Orochimaru did endless experiments on himself that resulted in his true form being a giant, white snake composed of several other snakes. He can emerge this form from within a host body and use it to fight. In this form, Orochimaru can extend the snakes his body is composed of to coil around enemies and restrain them, or he canswallow them whole. His blood in this form is toxic and will evaporate into a paralysing gas on contact with air, making fights against him in this form a bad idea. Prolonged ones deadly. While this form is normally used on people, Orochimaru showed to be capable of using it to switch into a non-human clone body like one of White Zetsu's clones after his revival during the Fourth Shinobi World War.
